July 2009
Dear friends of Way Out West,
We are now coming to the end of our fifth year of existence as a musician led co-operative venture promoting jazz performances and raising funding and profile in our part of the world and it's time to find a new venue. Richard and June, the licencees at the Ram Jam, have let us know they won't be inviting us back for a 6th year, so we are taking the opportunity to look afresh at our enterprise. We want to thank all our loyal and enthusiastic supporters for their commitment to a project which has created a great deal of work for creative musicians in London and an opportunity to express themselves as they want to for audiences who want to share in that. This is worth supporting and developing.
We are sorry to be leaving the Ram Jam. It's been a great venue for this five years during which new relationships have been forged (even a marriage!), new music created and for which we have been recognised by the Performing Rights Society (PRS) and the Musician's Union (MU) who have given us the National Promoter's Award four years running.
We hope to carry on and develop this approach in the coming years because we want to and because it's needed. We hope you will carry on supporting us in this adventure in our new venue or venues.
Thanks to Richard and June for having us in the Ram Jam for this last five years.
Tim Whitehead
